The presence of God

On more than on occasion, I have heard people say things like "I just don't 'feel' God near me." or "I just never really experience His presence."
This got me thinking and I thought I would put my thoughts down here😇

Since the "presence" of God can carry a wide range of meanings, I am going to talk my own personal experience with sensing God's presence.

I know the encounters they are speaking of.  Those times when God is so close you FEEL Him envelope you! And I know how it feels when you have those encounters and then you don't have those encounters anymore.  I know how it feels to hear of others having those encounters with Him and not personally having those encounters.  But why such fluctuations?

You probably wonder things like:

Whats wrong with me?  Am I not praying right?  Does God care about her more than me?  What am I missing?

I am not going to claim I have all the answers.  But I can share with you things I have learned on my journey, things I have learned in my studies, and things He has revealed to me.  I hope this helps you in your walk as well💗

  • His presence reveals our secret sins to us.

Psalm 90:8  You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.

You might not even realize it, but YOU might be avoiding Him because you have sins in your life that you don't want to confess to Him.  Sometimes we are so ashamed or embarrassed by things we do that we hide those things so we won't have to talk about them or look at them.  But God already knows and loves you. He isn't waiting to condemn you.  He is waiting to love you and forgive you and fellowship with you. 1 John 1:9 tells us: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Sometimes just 'coming clean' with God is all it takes💙

  • Stop Drowning Him Out.

Psalm 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

Be still doesn't just mean to sit in one spot and not move.  You have to quiet your heart and quiet your mind.  Quiet your soul.  It is easy to get caught up in our days with too much of everything.  Too much social media, too much TV, too much activity, too much work, too much traffic.  But He tells us right in scripture that we need to be still to know Him. 💜

  • Sing praises to Him
Psalm 23:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel

When we worship and sing to Him, it puts all of our focus on Him.  It takes the focus off of you and everything else.  He delights in us when you sing to Him. He delights when you put your pride aside and humble yourself before Him and give Him all the glory He deserves.  Each time you do this, He will meets  there💚

  • Read Scripture Out Loud
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

There is so much power in the Word of God.  When you read it out loud, you can actually sense His power and presence. Your heart is pricked with inspiration or conviction!  How awesome is that?
